Monitor Storage Area

When not in use, the monitor, keyboard and mouse can be securely stored away in this lockable compartment.

Access to the compartment is controlled by a switch located on the Control Panel. There is also a separate lock located in the centre section of the desk which, when locked, overrides the switch, preventing users from gaining access to the IT equipment. Alternatively, there is also a software solution that enables teachers, within the authority level set by the Administrator, to remotely control the locking of individual desks using any PC connected to the network.

Monitor Storage Cover

To access the monitor, the storage cover opens on a hinge, moving through 90 degrees. After raising the monitor, keyboard and mouse from within the compartment, the user closes the storage cover back through 90 degrees to return it to its closed position. The user always has a closed, flat desktop, regardless of whether the IT equipment is in use or stowed away.

Monitor Mounting

The monitor arm is attached to a proprietary mounting that moves from a location within the desk (stowed location) to a location on top of the desk (active location). This enables the monitor and mechanism to be stored out of sight when not in use and enables the user to position the monitor above the desk for ergonomic use and to provide for a clear desktop.

Monitor Arm

The monitor arm enables the user to easily adjust the vertical height and horizontal location of the monitor to achieve an ergonomically comfortable position. Additionally, when an instructor wants the entire class to focus on a classroom whiteboard, the student can simply swing the monitor to the side, providing for a clear view to the front of the room. The monitor arm also retracts the monitor to enable it to be stored when not in use.

Monitor

The RΣASON™ desk is designed to use a 15", 17" or 19" flat screen monitor. These are available as standard TFT monitors or can be ordered with a hardened glass front (15” and 17” only).

Computer Compartment

The computer is housed in a specially designed, proprietary computer case located in a separate compartment situated at the far side of the desk, next to the monitor compartment. The computer can be accessed by unlocking and removing a panel located on the underside of the desk. Access is only required to maintain or upgrade the PC.

Floppy Drive

An optional floppy drive can be located within the centre section of the desk, accessible to the users from the front. With the increasing role of USB memory devises, the floppy is rapidly becoming redundant and thus is an optional feature.

Optical Drive

An optional optical drive can be located within the centre section of the desk, accessible to the users from the front of the desk. The optical drive is available as a:

» CD
» DVD / CD-RW or
» DVD-RW

Control Panel

The control panel is located on the front of the monitor storage area. It contains:

» the switch to control access to the monitor storage area

» Two USB ports

» The audio sockets (microphone and headset)

» An LED to indicate if the PC is on and...

» Multiple LEDs to indicate the status of the security of the desk
